Here you can get acquainted with the history from 1018 to 1919 regarding the Government Binnenhof. With Count Dirk from the Vikings time, the founder of the county of Holland in 1018. Count Floris V, who had the Knight’s Hall built, his son Jantje and Jacoba of Beieren, the last Countess of Holland. The company van Brederode and the mercenaries are also present who supported the graves and stadtholds in exercising their power. They demonstrate their weapons and tell you about their lives in a camp. Of course William of Orange is not missing, father of the fatherland. But also Johan van Oldenbarnevelt is called father of the Fatherland and is sentenced to death by the son of William of Orange. And did you know that in the Golden age a 10-day wedding was celebrated in The Hague by Lord Van Brederode with Louise van Solms? A highlight of the golden Age. Louise is present as a bride with her sister Amalia, the Princess of Orange. They look forward to the ‘Longest Rembrandt drawing’ that will still be made on Saturday afternoon of the wedding along the Hofvijver with children. On Sundays, ‘The Princess and the Bride’ are to be admired in the Paleistuin (Palace garden), while in the Historical Camp Constantijn and Christiaan Huygens are present. Christiaan is one of the greatest scientists in the golden Age. The downside of the golden Age is reflected in the exhibition at The Hague Historical Museum (Haags Historisch Museum): Gloss, glory and misery. In 2019, ‘ 100 Years of electoral law ‘ is celebrated. That is why Aletta Jacobs will be present as the protagonist of women’s voting right, which was realized in 1919.

From 9.30 to 11.30 the camp is open during the Prinsjesfestival breakfast. After the Opening Show on the Lange Voorhout from 12.00 to 12.45 o’clock the Historical Camp is from 13.00 to 17.00 hours at full strength for the public.
